World Cup coins headline Mint’s March launch

The Royal Canadian Mint’s March release is dominated by an expansive FIFA World Cup 2026 collection marking Canada’s role as co-host alongside the United States and Mexico.

As the first tournament staged across three nations and the first to feature 48 teams, the 2026 event provides the Mint with a global platform reflected in a range of ambitious gold and silver issues.

Leading the lineup is the $350 five-ounce pure gold Celebration coin, limited to just 175 pieces worldwide. Its reverse captures the emotional high point of the tournament, with the FIFA World Cup Trophy raised before a stadium crowd adorned with the Canada 2026 maple leaf mosaic emblem. Additional gold offerings include the one-ounce $200 We All Play Together coin and a quarter-ounce $100 issue honouring Toronto and Vancouver as host cities.

Silver plays an equally important role. The five-ounce $50 The Trophy coin features Ultra High Relief engraving and a genuine malachite ring inspired by the base of the World Cup Trophy, marking the first time the Mint has incorporated the gemstone. One-ounce silver issues include the $20 The Winning Goal coin and the coloured $20 We Are 26 coin, each struck in fine silver and designed to capture the energy and unity of the tournament.

Beyond the World Cup theme, the Mint introduces a new Premium Bullion release with the one-ounce $50 Majestic Wolf coin, the first full-ounce gold issue in the Majestic series. The popular pysanka series also returns in gold and silver formats, while a five-ounce Multilayered Engraving Bluenose coin adds dramatic depth to Emanuel Hahn’s iconic schooner design.

A joint fine silver set issued with The Royal Mint marks the 100th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth. The two-coin Proof set pairs a Canadian $20 coin depicting the late Queen riding Burmese with a British £2 coin featuring her Royal Cypher.

Rounding out the release is a six-coin Brilliant Uncirculated set celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mint’s Winnipeg facility, complete with a special “W” mint mark and a double-dated Toonie marking the coin’s 30th anniversary. The March 3 launch blends international spectacle with enduring Canadian themes, reflecting both global sport and national heritage.
