Vancouver club revives Shoreline newsletter

The Vancouver-based North Shore Numismatic Society (NSNS) has revived its newsletter, The Shoreline, following a years-long hiatus.

“I have been with the club since 1988, and as far as I can recall, the club always issued a monthly newsletter,” said Mike Souza, the NSNS’s long-time president, secretary and treasurer.

“When our editor Ray Mah passed away in 2004, we had to find someone to take over as editor. Our current Vice-President Gene Simms became the editor and tried to issue them monthly, but due to family and work commitments, it was difficult to maintain. Gene did the best he could, and The Shoreline was issued intermittently until 2015, when it became dormant.”

Last September, following more than two years of COVID-19, Simms decided to issue a special edition of the newsletter to update NSNS members and other collectors about the club’s activities during the pandemic.

“He enjoyed doing it, and now that his work and family commitments have somewhat decreased, he said he will try to issue them on a quarterly basis.”

During the pandemic, Souza began receiving many newsletters from clubs in Canada and the United States, inspiring him to relaunch the NSNS publication.

“Like those clubs that have newsletters, our aim is to also provide interesting numismatic articles and inform readers as to what is happening in our club,” he said, adding the revived newsletter “has been very well received by the membership.”
