Collectors from across Canada and beyond will gather in Calgary next week for the 2025 Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) Convention, which also marks the organization’s 75th anniversary.
Running July 15–19 at the Hyatt Regency Calgary, the event will bring together numismatists of all ages for a full slate of educational seminars, meetings, awards, auctions, and a public bourse featuring dealers from across North America.
This year’s host, the Calgary Numismatic Society, is also celebrating its own 75th anniversary — making the 2025 event a rare dual milestone for Canadian numismatics. Founded just months apart in 1950, the RCNA and Calgary club have grown in parallel, contributing significantly to the promotion of coin collecting and numismatic education nationwide.
“It’s an honour to welcome the RCNA back to Calgary for this historic occasion,” said James Williston, chair of the 2025 convention. “We’re proud to celebrate both anniversaries with the entire hobby community.”
The convention kicks off with tours and welcome events on July 15 and 16, followed by the opening of the bourse on Thursday, July 17. Collectors will find a wide selection of coins, banknotes, medals, tokens, and supplies from over 50 dealers. Educational highlights include presentations on Canadian errors and varieties, maritime numismatics, youth collecting, and the history of the RCNA itself. The annual RCNA awards banquet, scheduled for Saturday evening, will honour outstanding contributions to the hobby.
A special souvenir medal and convention program have been produced to commemorate the 75th anniversary, with themes highlighting Calgary’s heritage and the RCNA’s legacy. Organizers are also planning a tribute exhibit showcasing memorabilia from past conventions, as well as a youth auction and hands-on activities aimed at the next generation of collectors.
This marks the RCNA’s first return to Calgary since 2019, when the city last hosted the national gathering. With two major anniversaries, a strong dealer turnout, and a full lineup of programs, the 2025 RCNA Convention promises to be one of the most memorable events on Canada’s numismatic calendar for 2025.
