Two $25 ‘jewels’ headline Prominence XII preview

Two spectacular 1935 $25 banknotes – one an English-text repeater and the other a rare French-text issue – are taking centre stage ahead of The Canadian Numismatic Company’s upcoming Prominence XII Sale. Described by auctioneer Marc Verret as the “jewels” of the three-day event set for April 23-25, these high-grade notes are expected to spark fierce bidding among advanced collectors and investors alike.

The English-text example, featuring repeater serial number A005005 and offered as Lot 602, is graded Choice Uncirculated-63PPQ. Verret praises its exceptional centring, vibrant colours, and crisp paper quality. Meanwhile, its French counterpart, Lot 603, boasts an even higher grade of Very Choice Uncirculated-64PPQ. With just a handful of French-text $25 notes known in top condition, this example is being billed as one of the finest ever handled by the firm.

These standout rarities headline an auction packed with other numismatic treasures, including high-grade decimal coinage, historic chartered notes, and classic Dominion of Canada issues. Highlights include a Superb Gem 1903 10-cent, a Gem 1893 25-cent, and a stunning 1872H half-dollar—all offered with strong opening bids and plenty of collector appeal.
