The Toronto Coin Expo returns to the Toronto Reference Library on May 1 and 2, bringing together dealers, collectors and enthusiasts for one of Canada’s leading numismatic events.
Held at 789 Yonge St. in downtown Toronto, the show will feature 40 dealers offering a wide selection of coins, banknotes and related collectibles. With thousands of items on the bourse, collectors can expect everything from affordable finds to high-end rarities.
Show owner Jared Stapleton said the Expo continues to serve as an important marketplace for buying, selling and trading numismatic material, including gold and silver coins, banknotes and jewellery. Free on-site appraisals are included with admission, giving attendees an opportunity to learn more about the value of their collections.
Another major draw will be two Geoffrey Bell Auctions sales held in conjunction with the show, taking place Thursday and Friday evenings. The auctions will feature an extensive collection of tokens from the late Harry James, along with select pieces from the renowned Bob Graham Collection, and will mark the introduction of the Geoffrey Bell Canadian Medal Collection.
The Expo will also host a series of free educational workshops on Saturday, May 2.
Programming begins at 10:30 a.m. with Coin Collecting for Kids, an introductory session designed to help young collectors learn what beginners can collect while meeting others in the hobby.
At 11 a.m., a youth coin auction will offer a hands-on experience, allowing young collectors to bid on real numismatic items using play money. The session is recommended for children aged eight and older, with advance registration encouraged.
At 1 p.m., François Rufiange will lead a coin grading workshop covering key concepts such as relief, wear, grade, marks and lustre. Participants will study coin wear across different monarchs using André Langlois’ Guide for Grading Coins of Canada and take part in a hands-on exercise comparing coins in small groups. The workshop includes multiple sets of coins with varying levels of difficulty, and attendees are encouraged to bring magnifying glasses.
The Expo has also launched a new YouTube channel in partnership with Geoffrey Bell Auctions, featuring video content designed to educate and engage collectors. The channel is intended to serve as a long-term resource for the Canadian numismatic community.
