SWCS hands out first literary award

Ontario numismatist David Carpenter has received the inaugural Literary Award of the South Wellington Coin Society (SWCS).

Awarded by SWCS President Scott Douglas at the club’s March meeting, the honour recognizes Carpenter’s article, “Scanning on the Edge: Photographing a Coins Third Side,” published in the club’s Wellington Circular newsletter (and available via the Newman Numismatic Portal at bit.ly/3LnDJdN). Carpenter also demonstrated the process outlined in his article to members during a club meeting last August.

“David presented his groundbreaking invention, which is one of the most useful ever encountered by numismatists. David created a lot of excitement in the hobby,” reads a SWCS update published in the Ontario Numismatist, the Ontario Numismatic Association’s bimonthly journal.

The SWCS Literary Award “is designed to recognize authors of articles on significant numismatic subjects,” according to the club update.

The SWCS will host its Guelph Spring Coin Show on April 29 in Guelph, Ont.
