Snowman a ‘silver’ hit with collectors

A happy Snowman aiming to throw a snowball has proven to be a hit with coin collectors as they voted it as the best “Fine Silver Coin of 2014”.

The $20 for $20 coin was amongst the Fine Silver coins produced in 2014 by the Royal Canadian Mint, and voted the ‘best design’ by collectors in a contest held recently by the Mint.

“Your valuable input will help inspire our designers create coins you love,” the Mint’s website stated when it launched the contest a few weeks ago.

The  Snowman silver coin was released this year as part of the Mint’s ongoing, and popular, $20 for $20 series. With a total mintage of 200,000, the Mint has sold out of its snowman coin.

Frosty garnered 481 votes, only 22 ahead of the $200 for $200 two-ounce Fine Silver Coin – Towering Forests. Third place went to the one-ounce Fine Silver Coloured Coin – The Wolf. The popular Superman series, which sold out in a few days, received a fourth vote for its silver coin.
