‘Rudolph Nose’ variety found

Collectors in southern Ontario have discovered a new variety on Canada’s 2020-dated 25-cent coin.

The 25-cent coin has long depicted a left-facing caribou head; however, the animal on the newfound variety features a slightly different nose.

Designed by German-born sculptor Emanuel Hahn in 1937, the 25-cent coin has long depicted a left-facing caribou head; however, the animal on the newfound variety features a slightly different nose that seemingly illuminates the area beyond its nostrils.

The discovery has since been dubbed the“ Rudolph Nose” by Colonial Acres, a dealer based in Kitchener, Ont., which sold the only known example – so far – this summer.
