Royal Mint hosts silent auction for rare Sovereign Set

Collectors worldwide can bid on a rare Sovereign Set struck by the U.K.’s Royal Mint in celebration of King Charles III’s coronation.

The five-coin set featuring Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic St George and the dragon design on the reverse and a crowned coinage portrait of King Charles is available exclusively via the Royal Mint’s silent auction.  The 2023 Sovereign is the only sovereign to feature the official crowned coinage portrait of King Charles III, which Martin Jennings designed

The set contains a Sovereign, Five-Sovereign Piece, Double-Sovereign, Half-Sovereign, and a Quarter-Sovereign. Each coin also features a special matte-proof finish to enhance its detailing. This specific set of Sovereign coins has never before been available to members of the public to buy.

Available only at auction, there are just 23 sets available to the public, with two further sets going to The Royal Mint Museum and The Royal Collection. The collectors who submit the highest bids will acquire the sets, while the overall highest bidder in the auction will receive the Limited Edition Presentation set number one.

Bidding is opens and closes at 12 midnight on Sunday, 17 March 2024 via The Royal Mint’s website.
