Long-time Southern Ontario collector and club official Joao “John” Semedo died on July 16 at age 60.
Born in Portugal in 1961, Semedo immigrated to Canada in 1979 before becoming a citizen six years later. He studied at Toronto’s George Brown College before entering the polymer industry as a press line worker and molder – a career that would serve him for more than four decades. A 15-year member of the Waterloo Coin Society (WCS), Semedo also belonged to the South Wellington Coin Society (SWCS).
“He will be missed at both meetings and our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” reads the August WCS Newsletter.
Semedo played a role in organizing the SWCS’s 20th anniversary banquet in 2017.
