Bob Fletcher, a long-time collector and well-known Ontario numismatist, died on Dec. 7 at age 82.
The longest-standing member of the Ingersoll Coin Club (ICC), Fletcher joined the club in 1963 alongside his wife Shirley. “With many years of collecting coins, Bob showed a great interest in the hobby,” reads a statement issued by the ICC.
“We all extend our deepest condolences to Shirley and her family. Bob will be sadly missed.”
With more than 60 years of numismatic experience, Fletcher also belonged to several other clubs in Southern Ontario, including the Brantford Numismatic Society (BNS).
“Bob had a vast knowledge of coins and will be greatly missed by BNS members and many others. May he rest in peace.”
Fellow numismatist Len Trakalo recalled his time with Fletcher and the BNS: “We both joined BNS on the same night, I believe in the fall of 1974. The club was meeting in the senior centre on Charlotte Street. His last name was ahead in the alphabet, so he got #179, and I got #180. Except for Frank Baka, he and myself were about the longest active members left.”
Fletcher’s family will host a celebration of his life in January.
