Renwick honoured with hobby’s highest award

One of Canada’s respected numismatic researchers, authors and editors has received the nation’s highest honour in numismatics. Barrie Renwick, 93, was presented with the 2026 J. Douglas Ferguson Award during the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association’s annual convention in Winnipeg.

For more than three decades, Renwick has been a prolific contributor to Canadian numismatic scholarship, authoring more than 75 articles while earning a reputation as one of the country’s foremost authorities on Canadian medals and medallic art. His quiet work behind the scenes as a proofreader and editor has also helped shape the publications of numerous fellow researchers.

Although unable to travel to Winnipeg, Renwick accepted the award virtually, receiving a standing ovation from convention attendees as he was recognized for a lifetime of research, writing and service to the hobby.
