California numismatists Michael Turrini, Lloyd Chan and Fred van den Haak have presented a Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) President’s Award to Alexander “Xan” Chamberlain, one of several recipients this year.
RCNA President Steve Woodland announced the award at the association’s convention this summer in Ottawa; however, Chamberlain was unable to attend.
The honour recognizes Chamberlain’s “generous and repeated support toward Canadian numismatics while acknowledging his equal support to organized numismatics in the States,” according to Turrini, the RCNA’s area director for the western United States.
Chamberlain received the award at the monthly meeting of the Peninsula Coin Club in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sept. 12.
“Xan is the current and long-time president of the Peninsula Coin Club,” said Turrini. “He presides with an easy hold of the helm, springing chuckles and sparking laughs along with serious numismatics. Xan joined as a youngster, and he remarked once that he would ride his bicycle in the rain to attend meetings.”
Chamberlain plans to speak at the RCNA educational symposium during the association’s 2023 convention in Halifax, N.S., next July 18-22.
