The Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) is inviting its member clubs to use its annual Zoom subscription – for free – through June 2021.
RCNA officials notified its member clubs about the offer via email this August. The association recently purchased a one-year Zoom subscription for its executive meetings and annual general meeting, the latter of which will be held on Oct. 17.
“As we continue to endure the impact of the coronavirus in our daily lives, most RCNA clubs are unable or unwilling to resume almost all in-person club meetings for the foreseeable future,” said RCNA Executive Secretary Paul Johnson.
Widely used as a business, entertainment and social tool since the COVID-19 pandemic began in mid-March, Zoom “is a great way to have distant world-class speakers and members participate in your club meetings without the need, time or expense of travel,” added Johnson.
SCHEDULE A MEETING
Brett Irick, RCNA club services chair and director for south-central Ontario, will co-ordinate the meeting schedule for interested clubs.
Each participating club will need to appoint a meeting moderator and will be allowed up to two Zoom meetings a month as “a coronavirus bonus to the numismatic community,” Johnson said.
Contact Irick at xr7gt@prodigy.net to make a meeting reservation by providing your club’s first and second choices for dates and times. A series of recurring meetings can be scheduled at one time. Irick will then provide you with additional instructions on how to hold a successful club meeting using Zoom along with the meeting access information.
“Good luck and we hope that you will take advantage of this extra RCNA membership benefit.”
The RCNA includes about 50 member clubs from each of the 10 provinces, excluding Newfoundland.
