The Royal Canadian Mint’s May releases feature a lineup of eight new coins, the 2025 Specimen Set, and the Annual Collection Book—described by the Mint as “the new collector favourite.”
The specimen set centres on the monarch butterfly, highlighting its threatened migration and role as a vital pollinator. Designed by Julius Csotonyi, the $1 coin joins five other denominations in a book-style display with a 30,000 mintage.
The Annual Collection Book, limited to 3,500 copies, includes exclusive uncirculated versions of six 2024 commemorative circulation coins: the L.M. Montgomery $1, RCAF $2, and Inuit Nunangat $2—each in colour and non-colour formats. A full-colour coin poster, behind-the-scenes stories, and collector interviews round out the package.
Among the six Fine silver issues, a $20 RCMP Musical Ride coin captures the iconic salute of the Officer in Charge. Designed by Janet Griffin, the selectively coloured coin has a mintage of 8,500.
Gold collectors can look forward to the third coin in the Great Hunters series, featuring the grey wolf in ultra-high relief. Designed by Emily Damstra, the $200 coin weighs 33.17 grams and is limited to 400 pieces.
All items have a release date of May 6 and are available now at mint.ca.
