Orillia, Ont., club carries on

After the sudden death of its sitting president, the Champlain Coin Club (CCC) has resumed operations.

On May 4, a day after his 74th birthday, Robert Durrant died at his home in Severn, Ont. (“CCC President Rob Durrant dies at 74,” Vol. 59 #6).

“We will all miss his creative leadership, friendliness, devotion to our hobby and keen sense of humour,” wrote CCC Vice-President Murray Smith in the June Champlain Coin Club Bulletin.

Murray is running the club until a new president can be found.

While the club’s May meeting and newsletter were both cancelled, the Orillia, Ont.-based group resumed those services (with a virtual meeting) in June.

“It’s good to see the club is moving forward and also still planning for the big anniversary,” said long-time Ontario collector Judy Blackman, a CCC member for the past two years, referencing the group’s 60th anniversary in 2022.

The club is now tasked with naming a new president, who is expected to take the helm by fall.
