Ontario police investigating another theft

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a reported theft of coins, paper money and several other items from a residence near Cobourg, Ont., on Oct. 22.

Police say one or more suspects entered a residence on Shortt Street in Harwood, near Rice Lake, between 5 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The home’s back door was damaged and forced open, and $1,000 in Vietnamese paper money; 1998 Royal Canadian Mint coins in a burgundy leather case; and 1995 RCM coins in a grey leather case were reported stolen.

Five watches, two cameras plus lenses and an unopened 40-ounce bottle of Crown Royal whisky were also stolen.

Anyone with information is urged to call the nearest OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122 or submit an anonymous tip via the Peterborough/Northumberland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This September, the OPP was also investigating a theft of $5,000 in collectible coins from a home in nearby Belleville plus another $8,000 coin heist from a home in Kawartha Lakes, which is only about 100 kilometres from Harwood, Ont.
