The Ontario Numismatic Association (ONA) will host its 63rd annual convention this Friday and Saturday, May 9–10, at the Best Western Plus Arden Park Hotel in Stratford, Ont.
Held in partnership with the Stratford Coin Club, the event is set to welcome collectors, dealers, and enthusiasts from across the province and beyond.
This year also marks a special milestone for the Stratford Coin Club as it celebrates its 60th anniversary. Founded in 1964, the club has played a key role in promoting numismatics throughout southwestern Ontario and is proud to co-host this year’s convention in its hometown.
In a return not seen in several years, this year’s convention will feature a live auction. Alliance Coin Auctions will headline the weekend with a 500-lot sale of numismatic rarities scheduled for May 9–10. The auction is curated by Alliance owner Sean Isaacs and conducted online via iCollector. Isaacs emphasized the diverse nature of the material on offer, much of which has not been seen in recent sales. The inclusion of a major auction brings added excitement to one of Ontario’s premier numismatic events.
The public bourse floor opens on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a variety of dealers offering Canadian and world coins, paper money, tokens, medals, and numismatic literature. Admission to the bourse is $5.
Registered attendees will gain early access to the bourse on Friday, May 9, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., including a welcome reception and exclusive preview of the dealer floor. The convention also includes a lineup of educational seminars, club meetings, and a banquet on Saturday evening. Tickets for the banquet are $75 and include dinner, awards presentations, and a keynote speaker.
This year’s convention medal celebrates Stratford’s local history, depicting the 1928 Brooks Steamer—a steam-powered car manufactured in the city—alongside the comedy and tragedy masks honouring Stratford’s famed theatrical tradition. The medals are available in .999 fine silver, brass, and copper, each with limited mintages.
Youth will have their own dedicated programming, including a special youth auction where young collectors can bid on donated numismatic items using play money. It’s part of the ONA’s ongoing effort to foster the next generation of collectors.
For those attending, the ONA convention promises education, fellowship, and access to rare and historic material—all in the heart of Stratford.
