Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) recently announced it has now certified two million Chinese coins—a first for a third-party coin grading service.
This milestone was reached only 18 months after NGC certified its first million Chinese coins, a reflection of the significant growth experienced in China.
NGC began operations in China in 2008 when it opened an Official Submission Center in Guangzhou. According to NGC representatives, the grading service has since invested millions of dollars to expand and enhance its services in China.
Recently, NGC expanded its grading facility in the prestigious Xintiandi District of Shanghai to nearly 15,000 square feet. Modeled after NGC’s headquarters in Sarasota, Fla., the office boasts advanced security and climate-control features.
ONE MILLION CHINESE PANDA COINS GRADED
“Our goal is to continually provide collectors and dealers in China with better and more comprehensive third-party grading services,” said NGC CEO Steven Eichenbaum. “We will not rest on our laurels, but rather take each milestone as a challenge to make further improvements.”
The two million Chinese coins graded by NGC include three pieces that subsequently sold for more than $1 million as well as a wide range of vintage and modern issues. The figure includes more than one million Chinese Panda coins, which have grown significantly in popularity both in China and around the world in recent years.
“We are truly humbled by all of the support that we have received in China,” added Eichenbaum. “I am extremely grateful for the hard work of our Official Submission Centers, Strategic Partners and Authorized Dealers as well as for the trust that collectors have placed in our expert and impartial services.”
Submissions to NGC in China should be made through one of its five Official Submission Centers located in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and Xi’an.
