U.S. GOLD BUFFALO COINS
Gold buffalo coins are limited-edition Proof coins based on the popular Type I Buffalo nickel. They were reintroduced as the first 24-karat gold Proof coin ever struck by the U.S. Mint.
U.S. buffalo coins are collector versions of the official U.S. Mint American Buffalo gold bullion coins. Each coin contains one ounce of .9999 Fine 24-karat gold.
Designed by James Earle Fraser, a student of the legendary sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this design remained in use for 25 years and then was not seen again until 2001 with the release of the American Buffalo commemorative coin.
The American Buffalo gold coin’s obverse and reverse designs feature images created for America’s five-cent coin originally introduced in 1913. That popular coin, known as the “Indian Head”—or “Buffalo Nickel”—showcases the native beauty of the American West.
