Ontario collector Scott Douglas’ literature collection, currently up for sale via Manitoba dealer Howard Engel, includes several publications unknown to even the most astute numismatic bibliophiles.
“Scott Douglas is a very prolific author and researcher, and he’s accumulated quite the collection of literature,” said Engel, the proprietor of Richard Stockley Books since 2019. “In fact, there are some items collectors have never seen before.”
One item, a rare Charlton Publications catalogue from the late 1960s, served as a new find for numismatic literature expert Alan Roy, who catalogues Charlton publications, Engel said.
“It was published just before (Jim) Charlton sold his business and listed all the accessories that one could purchase from him. It wasn’t just a little price list; it was a published booklet with hard covers, and it was very professionally done with lots of photographs. Scott also said he’s never seen another example.”
Engel received the first major part of Douglas’ literature collection in July with the next portion slated to come his way in April (“Scott Douglas Collection of numismatic literature up for sale,” CCN Vol. 60 #12, Sept. 13, 2022).
