Montréal firm looks to 2022

Enchères Champagne Auctions (ECA) is ready for its 2022 auction schedule, which is expected to include several numismatic highlights.

Peter McDonald, who writes the lot descriptions for ECA, which auctioneer Claude Champagne founded in 2016, told CCN the Montréal-based firm has received ever-greater consignments since the Sherbrooke Seminary Collection first crossed the block in 2019.

“As we’re getting more and more auctions under our belt, we’re getting much better material,” said McDonald, who’s currently working on several ECA sales offering world paper money, orders and militaria plus silver plateware.

McDonald, who won the Charles D. Moore Professional Numismatic Award in 2018, started working with ECA a year later as the Sherbrooke Collection entered the firm on consignment.

“It was such a huge collection, and Claude gave me a shout and said, ‘Would you have some free time to give me a hand on it?’ I said sure – I couldn’t wait – because he had a 100-and-some-odd-year accumulation of the neatest stuff since puffed wheat, so of course, I jumped at it.”
