Military medal, challenge coins stolen in Kingston

Police in Kingston, Ont., are hoping to recover a General Service Medal (GSM) plus a pair of military-themed challenge coins recently stolen from a member of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

On March 22-23, the complainant’s vehicle – located near Barrie Street and Colborne Street – was entered by an unknown suspect.

A GSM from an operation in Kuwait and two challenge coins were stolen. Established in 2004, the GSM is awarded to recognize CAF members or allied forces serving with the CAF who provide direct support to operations in the presence of an armed enemy. The rank and name of the recipient are inscribed on the medal and – if recovered – can be verified by the investigating officer.

One of the stolen coins is inscribed “Canadian Forces Joint Signals Regiment” while the other reads “Canadian Forces Maintenance Unit.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Al Lapierre at alapierre@kingstonpolice.ca or 1-613-549-4660 (extension 6382).
