On Sept. 4, the Manitoba Coin Club (MCC) honoured long-time member Howard Engel with a plaque recognizing his role as the group’s show chair.
MCC First Vice-President Ken Dobson presented Engel with the plaque at the Royal Canadian Mint’s Winnipeg facility.
Engel, who’s also a life member of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association, served as the MCC show chair from 2014-20, during which time he co-ordinated six shows. He resigned as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the show’s cancellation last year and this year.
The owner of Richard Stockley Books since 2019, Engel has also been “looking after my frail, aging father, Roland,” he’s quoted as saying in this October’s issue of Bison Tales, the MCC’s newsletter.
Engel added: “Perhaps this is the one volunteer position that has taught me most about the importance of camaraderie and collaboration and the hobby’s all-important social aspects that are its lifeblood and reason for being.”
