Esteemed numismatist, exhibitor and author Ron Cheek was named a Fellow of the Ontario Numismatic Association (ONA) at the association’s convention in Kitchener this April.
Cheek has served in many roles with both the ONA as well as the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) and given presentations for local clubs, including the North York Coin Club, South Wellington Coin Club and Ottawa Numismatic Society (ONS), among others.
At the 2011 RCNA Convention, he won the top prize for his exhibit on Canadian medals. He’s also an accomplished writer with nearly 100 articles published for several North American and U.K. publications. He was the recipient of the Guy Potter Literary Award in 2013 and 2014; the Jérôme Remick III Literary Award in 2007, 2010 and 2013; the Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG) Award for USA Magazines in 2013; and the NLG Award for World Coin Magazines in 2011. He also served on the editorial committee and as copyeditor for the ONS’ Moneta publication and helped launch Nummus Canada as a contributor.
Cheek is also a Fellow of the RCNA as well as the Canadian Numismatic Research Society.
