One of the United States’ most distinguished numismatists, and a friend to many Canadian collectors, is receiving another prestigious honour.
The Central States Numismatic Society (CSNS) will present its annual Q. David Bowers Award to long-time professional numismatist, award-winning author, and respected hobby leader Jeff Garrett of Lexington, Ky. The award recognizes outstanding contributions by numismatic professionals.
Garrett, a highly influential figure in the numismatic community, founded Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries and has served as president of both the American Numismatic Association (2015-2017) and the Professional Numismatists Guild (2005-2007). He also founded the Bluegrass Coin Club, co-authored multiple award-winning numismatic reference books, and serves as a consultant to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Numismatic Collection in Washington, D.C.
Since 2019, Garrett has been the senior editor of The Official Red Book: A Guide Book of United States Coins. Familiar to many Canadian collectors, Garrett strengthened ties between the ANA and the RCNA during his tenure as ANA president, attending Royal Canadian Numismatic Association conventions and fostering international numismatic collaboration.
