International Numismatic Congress coming to Poland

The 2022 International Numismatic Congress (INC) will take place this September in the Polish capital of Warsaw.

The International Numismatic Committee, founded in 1927, hosts the event every six years as “an international forum for scholarly exchange,” according to its website. “The congress also provides the occasion for publication of a Survey of Numismatic Research, a critical bibliography, which highlights recent developments in all areas of numismatics.”

The council has about 160 members – mints, museums, university institutes and numismatic societies – from nearly 40 countries, including Canada.

The 2022 INC medal, designed by award-winning medallist Robert Kotowicz, formerly of the Mint of Poland, is available in either brass or silver with a 70-millimetre diameter.

The reverse shows stylized hands holding a 100-ducat gold coin issued by Poland in 1621 and featured on the medal in gilt.

Both versions are selectively gilt and depict this year’s INC logo at the centre with Warsaw’s Royal Castle and several historic Polish coins in the background. The reverse shows stylized hands holding a 100-ducat gold coin issued by Poland in 1621 and featured on the medal in gilt.

A “limited” number of medals will be available during the INC on Sept. 11-16; however, organizers have provided no mintage. For more details about the INC, visit inc2022.pl.
