Dealer John Burrell dies

John Burrell, the owner of Halton Coins and Collectables, the NUMIS Store, located in Mississauga, died on March 8, 2023.

A member of the Canadian Association of Numismatic Dealers (CAND), Burrell was a fixture at various shows in Southern Ontario, including the Paris Coin Show, Brampton Coin Show and the Guelph Coin Show.

“John was a fixture at our South Wellington Coin Society shows for over 25 years, and I looked forward to hosting him at our shows,” show organizer Mike Hollingshead posted. “He was noted for his memory of historical facts, his keen eye, knowledge of numismatics (coins and paper money collecting) and his honesty. He was a great source of the common and the obscure! He had a good memory for what individual collectors were looking for and was always a fair man to dicker with. He will be dearly missed by all his friends in the numismatic community.”

Please note that the obituary published on April 28 was incorrect.

The family has requested privacy, in honour of their father’s wishes.
