Currency Museum, RCM boutiques close

As the country reels in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, both the Bank of Canada Museum and Royal Canadian Mint boutiques in Ottawa in Winnipeg have closed to visitors.

Out of concern for the health and safety of visitors, employees and the community at large, all currently scheduled public events and programs at the Bank of Canada Museum are cancelled until further notice.

While the Mint’s boutiques are closed, its “customer solutions centre” remains open to take orders, answer questions and provide information at 1-800-267-1871.

“The Mint regrets the impact of this decision on customers and those who intended to tour the facilities over the next few weeks,” the Crown corporation said in a statement on March 13.

The next day, Mint President and CEO Marie Lemay asked “all Mint employees who can work from home to do so in order to reduce the risk for those who manufacture our products and ensure business continuity.”

Thank you to our employees for the strong response,” she added.

The Mint will re-open its boutiques “as soon as possible” and will be notifying the public via mint.ca as well as its social media platforms.
