CCN medal designer frames final strikes

Edmonton collector Tony Wait, the winner of CCN’s recent COVID-19 medal design contest, has a new centrepiece for his home office.

Wait framed each of the three finished medals – struck in silver, bronze and nickel – alongside the full print edition of CCN featuring a front-page story about the contest.

“I had the entire thing enclosed in protective glass and gas-charged to keep out air, dust and ultraviolet rays, so it will last forever without ever fading,” said Wait, whose design was one of 12 submitted to CCN from across the country. “The protective glass also keeps the medals in perfect, as-new condition forever.”

The limited-edition medals were issued in November (“CCN’s COVID-19 medal available in silver, cupronickel, bronze,” Vol. 58 #17), and a small number of each type are still available via Coin & Stamp Supplies, a division of Trajan Media.
