In a year marked by significant milestones, Vancouver’s All Nations Stamp and Coin is set to host its 1,475th online auction on Sept. 7,
This event is particularly special as it coincides with three major anniversaries: the 75th year of All Nations, owner Brian Grant-Duff’s 40 years in the stamp and coin business across Vancouver and Toronto, and 25 years as the current owner of All Nations.
The auction will feature an impressive lineup of 225 selected lots, showcasing stamps, postal history, proofs and essays, coins, banknotes and silver and gold.
The auction’s opening item, Lot 1, is a signed photo of Prince Edward from the Raab collection, with an estimated value of $500. Among the top attractions is Lot 15, a Canada 12 Mint HR 1859 perforated 3d Beaver, formerly part of the Lyman collection, with an estimated value of $6,000.
Rare Canadian stamps are well represented, including a Canada 18v used Stitch watermark and a 28a unused watermarked E. Lot 33 offers a set of 1897 Jubilee plate proofs, estimated at $2,000. Collectors will also find scarce items such as one of the seven known Chatham one-cent Admiral precancels, and one of only 20 known imperf pairs of Canada 1292ii 1990 39c folklore, alongside a Bobby Orr signed 2790i.
Notable lots include Lot 85, featuring a Canada F3 imprint mint strip of four, and Lot 88, showcasing a never-hinged OX2 block, each estimated at $1,000. Quebec collectors will be interested in the Jean-Claude Riopelle signed QW11b never-hinged 1988 imperf sheet #216/300, and British Columbia is well represented with 21 lots, including the Vancouver Island three unused 1860 five-cent imperf, estimated at $10,000, and British Columbia’s last stamp, a very fine mint OG 18, estimated at $1,500.
One of the auction’s standout pieces is Lot 116, a very fine mint HR world rarity, New Brunswick 5 five-cent Connell imperforate, also from the Lyman collection, estimated at $6,000. Another highlight is Lot 122, featuring a Newfoundland 9a 1 Dec 1860 bisect on an addressed piece, estimated at $6,000.
Postal history enthusiasts will find intriguing offerings such as Lot 164, an 1888 used Queen Victoria Pound from Great Britain, estimated at $1,750, and an 18 March 1844 1d Black FLS penned by Cardinal Newman. Lot 98 is of particular note for British Columbia collectors, featuring an unused Vancouver Island thee, estimated at $10,000.
The auction also features a specialized selection of New Guinea items and a Port Gdansk/Buenos Aires 18 Aug 1932 LZ-127 Zeppelin flight cover, estimated at $1,000.
The coin section, beginning at Lot 204, includes a few select pieces from the Hudson’s Bay Company, among others. Noteworthy coins include an extremely fine 1948 Canadian Silver dollar, estimated at $1,500, and a BU P.R. China 1980 seven-coin set in its original holder, estimated at $1,000.
Another remarkable lot is Lot 217, an AU gold solidus from the reign of the last English emperor, Magnus Maximus, estimated at $5,000.
