The 2027 edition of The Official Red Book: A Guide Book of United States Coins is now shipping across North America, marking the 80th anniversary of the hobby’s best-known price guide while signalling a major expansion of the Red Book brand beyond its traditional role as a printed reference.
Announced July 7 by Virginia-based Whitman Brands, the new edition is being released in eight formats ranging from traditional softcover and hardcover editions to limited collector versions and, for the first time, secure digital eBooks. The launch also forms part of what the publisher describes as a broader “collector ecosystem” encompassing educational media, certified collectibles, digital resources and exclusive merchandise.
“The 2027 Red Book represents more than an anniversary edition,” said Whitman Brands CEO John Feigenbaum. “It’s the next chapter for one of the hobby’s most iconic brands. We’re expanding beyond the printed page to create a connected ecosystem of books, digital content, certified collectibles, educational media, and exclusive products that help collectors learn, collect, and enjoy the hobby every day.”
First published in 1946, the Red Book has sold more than 26 million copies and remains one of the most widely used references for United States coin collectors. The 2027 edition follows last year’s redesign and incorporates hundreds of suggestions submitted by collectors, dealers, researchers and authors.
Among its updates are more than 13,000 listings, over 1,000 new additions, pricing in up to nine grades, complete Greysheet CPG retail values, expanded error and variety coverage, restored grading guides, coin roll values and more than 2,000 full-colour photographs.
Whitman says the revised publication schedule also allows the guide to include newer United States Mint issues and more current market pricing before its annual release.
Canadian collectors can obtain the 2027 Official Red Book through CoinStampSupplies.com, which is carrying the hardcover, spiral-bound and large-print spiral editions.
