RCNA convention opens July 14 with record registration

Organizers say a record number of collectors have already registered for the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association’s 72nd annual convention, which opens July 14 in Winnipeg.

Hosted jointly by the RCNA and the Manitoba Coin Club, the five-day convention runs through July 18 at the Delta Hotels Winnipeg and the RBC Convention Centre, bringing together collectors, dealers, exhibitors and researchers from across Canada for one of the country’s premier annual numismatic gatherings.

Organizers say months of planning have gone into the event, which offers a full schedule of educational programs, competitive exhibits, auctions, tours, specialty club meetings, social events and a national bourse.

The convention’s educational program includes the popular RCNA Coin Grading Workshop, an educational symposium featuring 10 guest speakers and meetings of numerous specialty organizations, giving collectors opportunities to expand their knowledge and connect with others who share their collecting interests.

The bourse will feature dealers from across Canada offering coins, bank notes, tokens, medals, books and collecting supplies. Young collectors can take part in activities at the Youth Booth, while the JD Ferguson Historical Foundation will sponsor an Authors’ Alley highlighting numismatic authors and publications.

Collectors will also have opportunities to tour several of Winnipeg’s best-known attractions, including the Royal Canadian Mint, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Manitoba Museum, The Forks, the Winnipeg Art Gallery’s Inuit art collection and Assiniboine Park Zoo.

Auction firm The Canadian Numismatic Company (TCNC) will conduct two evening sales on July 16 and 17, offering Canadian and world numismatic material.

In addition to the educational and commercial programming, the convention includes an early bird dinner, Royal Canadian Mint reception, CAFNE reception, Friday evening dinner at the Manitoba Museum, convention luncheon, breakfast and the annual awards banquet on Saturday evening.

Canadian Coin News will once again be represented on the bourse floor, where readers can meet the staff and browse a selection of books and collecting supplies from CoinStampSupplies.com.
