Silver shipment stolen en route to Royal Canadian Mint

A major theft has been reported involving more than 3,200 ounces of silver stolen from a Day and Ross shipment destined for the Royal Canadian Mint.

According to Coin Canada of London, Ont., the missing shipment was last accounted for on Monday, August 11, and contained an estimated 3,212.5 ounces of silver across a range of bullion products.

The stolen items include both bullion bars and collectible coins. The list provided outlines the following:

  • 7 x 100 oz Royal Canadian Mint bars

  • 1 x 100 oz JBR bar

  • 1 x 100 oz Englehard bar

  • 3 x 100 oz Johnson Matthey bars

  • 2 x 50 oz Johnson Matthey bars

  • 1,375 Silver Maple Leafs, mostly mylar sealed

  • 196 x 2 oz Kraken coins

  • 97 x 1.5 oz Polar Bear coins

In total, the loss represents a significant amount of silver bullion and numismatic items, making the shipment highly recognizable if it surfaces on the secondary market.

Dealers and collectors are being urged to remain alert for any combination of these items that may appear at shops, shows, or through private sales. Coin Canada is asking that anyone with information contact them by phone at 519-457-4653.
