Mint marks RCNA’s 75th anniversary with exclusive souvenir set

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA), the Royal Canadian Mint has created a limited-edition collector set that debuted at this year’s RCNA Convention in Calgary.

The 2025 Special RCNA Souvenir Packaging Uncirculated Set includes two key components: the Mint’s standard six-coin 2025 Classic Uncirculated Coin Set and a specially struck copper token celebrating the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac. Both the RCNA and the convention’s host club—the Calgary Numismatic Society — are marking 75 years in 2025.

The standout feature of the souvenir set is the exclusive manually struck copper token, produced at the Mint’s Ottawa facility at at 320 Sussex Drive. The obverse features an image of a snake, honouring the 2025 Wood Snake year in the Chinese zodiac, a sign traditionally associated with wisdom, charm, and elegance. The word “OTTAWA” appears above the snake, with “2025” inscribed below. The reverse is stamped with “Royal Canadian Mint.”

Each set is housed in a specially designed numbered envelope, with only 2,025 sets produced. The envelope also features the signatures of Marie Lemay, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint, and William O’Brien, President of the RCNA. Initially launched at the RCNA’s July convention in Calgary, unsold sets are now being offered to the general public.

The set also includes the Mint’s popular 2025 Classic Uncirculated Coin Set, featuring six uncirculated coins—$2, $1, 50¢, 25¢, 10¢, and 5¢—minted at the Mint’s state-of-the-art facility in Winnipeg. As with previous issues, the 50-cent coin remains a collector highlight due to its rarity in everyday circulation.

This year also marks a golden milestone for one of Canada’s most iconic national emblems: the beaver. It has been 50 years since Parliament officially recognized Castor canadensis as a symbol of Canadian sovereignty. This anniversary is symbolized on the cover artwork of the 2025 Classic Set, which features a close-up of the iconic beaver.

Highlights of the standard six-coin set include:

  • A continuing tradition: An annual showcase of Canada’s circulation coinage, the set includes one of each denomination.

  • Stylish packaging: The coins are sealed in a custom-designed folder that fits into standard collector binders.

  • Affordable and accessible: This collectible makes a great starter set for new collectors of all ages and a thoughtful gift to mark a special year.

  • Uncirculated quality: None of the coins have entered circulation, ensuring top-quality strikes for collectors.

The folder includes detailed coin specifications in an easy-to-read format, enhancing the experience for both new and seasoned collectors.

Collectors interested in acquiring the Special RCNA Souvenir Packaging Uncirculated Set can now purchase the remaining sets while supplies last. The sets are available for only $26.95, plus tax, which is the regular price of the 2025 Classic set includes the token and serialized envelope.
