Colonial offers auction preview at National show

Colonial Acres is preparing to launch its 142nd Premier Auction later this month, with more than 1,850 lots of fresh material and Canadian rarities crossing the block. The three-session sale runs Sept. 26–28, but collectors won’t have to wait that long to get a close look at the highlights – lot viewing will be available at the National Postage Stamp & Coin Show on Sept. 6–7 at the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale.

Among the standout offerings is a six-piece set of 1912–14 $5 and $10 “premium hand-selected” gold coins originally released by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2013. Scarce Victorian and Edwardian issues also feature prominently, including an 1880H “Obverse 3” five-cent in Mint State-65, an 1884 10-cent in Extremely Fine-45, and a 1915 key-date 10-cent in Mint State-66, one of just nine known.

The auction’s second session showcases some of Canada’s rarest Victorian quarters, including the 1880H “Narrow 0” 25-cent in Mint State-64, the 1880H “Wide 0” 25-cent in Mint State-63 – the finest known example – and the elusive 1889 25-cent in Mint State-62, struck in a mintage of only 66,340. A scarce 1890H 50-cent coin in Extremely Fine-45, a key date with just 20,000 struck, adds further weight to the sale.

In addition to coins, Colonial’s September event will feature a robust selection of banknotes, including specimen issues, radars, errors, and Newfoundland material, plus medals, militaria, proofs, world rarities, and vintage bullion. Auctioneers Kirk Parsons and Janae Kroondijk say the wide-ranging lineup ensures something for collectors at every level.

Collectors attending the National Postage Stamp & Coin Show will have a opportunity to preview these lots in person before the actual online auction Sept. 26–28 at auctions.colonialacres.com. To arrange lot viewing at the show, call 1-888-255-4565 or email auctions@colonialacres.com with your requests.

Bidding online opens on Aug. 29, 2025.
