Seven-figure private sale sees acclaimed currency collectors part with Canadian collection

Two of the highlights of the Joanne and Edward Dauer Collection of Canadian currency were the 1911 $500 and $1,000 notes, both of which were pedigreed originally to Amon Carter.

Tri-metal test token die crack discovered

Some of the tri-metal tokens issued by the Royal Canadian Mint this October as part of its ‘R+D Lab Collection’ were recently discovered with die cracks through the centre of the obverse.

A complete eight-piece specimen set of the Bank of Canada’s 1937 Series realized $15,000 at the Sept. 27-28 sale hosted by Geoffrey Bell Auctions in conjunction with Toronto Coin Expo.

‘Extremely rare’ Saxony coin found in Canada

A newly discovered unlisted date of Saxony’s two-ducat gold coin, this struck in 1740, was recently found by a Canadian dealer. The coin features the ‘FWoF’ mint mark, which indicates the coin was struck by Dresden mint master Friedrich Wilhelm o Feral. It’s an ‘extraordinary’ find, according to fellow dealer Peter McDonald.

What’s described as an “extremely rare unlisted date” of Saxony’s two-ducat gold coin, this a 1740-dated piece struck in what’s now Poland, was recently discovered by a Canadian dealer. RCNA Convention marks 65th anniversary in Mississauga

‘A lot of great help’ drives fledgling coin club

Nearly 100 municipal trade tokens issued by Saugeen Shores in 1991 were recently donated to the Saugeen Coin Society by Judy Blackman.

Established only one year ago, the Saugeen Coin Society (SCS) has since seen its membership more than double as the executive works to secure the club’s footing in Bruce County.
