The year marks the 40th anniversary of the Britannia gold bullion coin, introduced in 1987, and the 30th anniversary of the silver Britannia.
The 2027 gold coins will feature a “40” wave privy mark, while the silver issues will carry a “30” wave privy mark. Both will also incorporate background textures showcasing their respective anniversary numbers.
The reverse continues to feature sculptor Philip Nathan’s depiction of Britannia, created for the original 1987 gold bullion coin. The design portrays Britannia with a shield representing protection, an olive branch symbolizing peace and a trident reflecting her connection with the sea.
The 2027 gold range includes one-ounce, half-ounce, quarter-ounce and one-10th-ounce coins struck in .9999 fine gold. The silver lineup, struck in .999 fine silver, includes one-ounce, quarter-ounce and one-10th-ounce coins, along with the return of the one-kilogram silver Britannia.
A one-ounce .9995 fine platinum Britannia will also be issued, although it will not carry the anniversary privy mark or numbered background texture.
All coins feature Martin Jennings’ official coinage portrait of King Charles III on the obverse and incorporate four security features designed to deter counterfeiting and assist with authentication.
