A massive 10-kilogram Silver $1,000 Maple Leaf making its first public auction appearance is expected to headline the 2026 Ontario Numismatic Association convention in Ottawa next weekend.
The giant Royal Canadian Mint issue will cross the block during the official Alliance Coin & Banknote auction, scheduled for May 29 on iCollector as part of the ONA’s 64th annual convention.
Hosted by the Ottawa Numismatic Society, the two-day event runs May 29–30 at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre and coincides with Ottawa’s 200th anniversary celebrations.
Auctioneer Sean Isaacs said the 10-kg silver Maple Leaf is expected to draw strong attention from both collectors and bullion investors. The sale will feature more than 500 lots of coins, banknotes, medals and tokens.
Other featured offerings include a consecutive trio of 1935 Bank of Nova Scotia $10 notes, a rare Oswego Captured Medal from the French and Indian War, an 1881 Carson City Morgan dollar graded PCGS MS-64 and a Byzantine gold solidus of Constans II. Bidding is now open for the auction.
The convention itself will feature about 30 dealers, educational presentations, exhibits, club meetings, a banquet and the annual ONA general meeting.
Organizers are also tying the event into Ottawa’s bicentennial celebrations and the 150th anniversary of the Library of Parliament, which inspired the design of the 2026 ONA convention medal.
The medal design, created by Sean Sinclair and engraved by Matthew Bowen, will be struck in silver, brass and copper, with limited mintages planned for some versions.
