Early Canadian year sets, vintage Proof-Like sets and a sought-after 1967 Centennial gold coin set are among the highlights in The Canadian Numismatic Company’s (TCNC) upcoming Royal Canadian Mint Coin Auction featuring more than 400 lots of Canadian numismatic material.
One of the featured offerings is Lot 11, a 1967 Centennial commemorative set complete with the gold $20 coin housed in its original black leather case. According to the auction description, the silver coins display a light blue hazy tone often associated with long-term storage in original packaging. Complete Centennial gold sets remain popular with collectors because of their connection to Canada’s 1967 celebrations and the enduring demand for Centennial-era material.
Collectors of early Canadian Mint products may also be drawn to Lot 1, which includes four year sets dated 1949, 1950, 1952 and 1953. TCNC describes the 1950, 1952 and 1953 sets as “genuinely nice lustrous AU to MS issues,” while the 1949 set is circulated. Early postwar year sets continue to attract collector interest because of their scarcity in higher grades and their place in Canada’s growing numismatic market of the era.
Proof-Like material is also well represented in the sale. Lot 6 features 1957 and 1959 Proof-Like sets housed in their original Mint-issued cardstock holders, with light pliofilm damage noted in the description. Another group, Lot 7A, includes eight Proof-Like sets spanning 1961 to 1967, covering an important period leading into Canada’s Centennial celebrations.
TCNC said the sale was assembled to appeal to collectors at all levels, from experienced numismatists seeking premium additions to newer hobbyists exploring Canadian Mint material for the first time. The auction includes a wide range of Royal Canadian Mint issues, including year sets, commemoratives, silver collector coins and other specialty releases reflecting decades of Canadian numismatic history.
