A pillar of Canadian numismatics has received the RCNA’s highest distinction. In Calgary on July 19, the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association presented the Paul Fiocca Award to long-time researcher, writer, and past RCNA president Stanley H. Clute, recognizing more than half a century of leadership, scholarship, and service.
Clute’s résumé spans club leadership in North York and Calgary, a decade on the RCNA executive culminating as president (1985–87), and decades as the Association’s archivist and historian. He authored the RCNA’s 50-year history in 2000 and is preparing a 75th-anniversary update – work that underscores his lifelong commitment to preserving Canada’s numismatic story.
Readers will also know Clute from his five decades with Canadian Coin News. Since 1973, he has penned more than 500 articles across popular columns, engaging directly with collectors who often seek his insights on ancient coins, Canadian paper money, tokens, medals, and more.
Discover how Clute’s career has shaped the hobby – and why his peers selected him for the 2025 Paul Fiocca Award – in the latest issue of Canadian Coin News, released Aug. 19.
