The Regina Coin Club (RCC) has unveiled the preliminary designs for two 70th anniversary wooden money varieties.
The first variety, a members-only issue, features a scalloped-edge design mirroring the original RCC logo. Each member will receive an example engraved with their name and membership number. The second variety uses a round edge and will be sold to members and non-members with mintages to be determined.
“I am playing around with both the laser settings and wood type to determine the best method,” RCC Secretary Troy Zimmer wrote in the club’s January newsletter, which he also serves as the layout editor.
Zimmer hopes the members-only woods will be ready for the club’s annual general meeting in March.
The RCC board of directors still needs to approve the other variety’s price, mintage and issue date.
The January newsletter also introduced a special logo created for the RCC’s recent milestone that will appear on each issue through 2023.
“We considered a medal or challenge coin, but either was too cost prohibitive,” Zimmer wrote.

Very nice design and great idea for the member woods. The scalloped design would look better without the ring.
Dies and minting costs are very expensive but if the RCC were to presell medals and only order a few extra for the club archives/special use, I am sure a lot of collectors would be interested. Happy Anniversary!
