Auctions, workshops and large dealer floor at Toronto Coin Expo

This Friday and Saturday the Toronto Coin Expo offers collectors a golden opportunity to delve into the importance of insuring their coin collections.

Show owner Jared Stapleton reveals that Hugh Wood International will host a table at the May 3-4 event and conduct a seminar on Saturday. Held biannually at the downtown Toronto Reference Library, located at 789 Yonge St., the expo serves as an ideal platform to learn about insurance mechanics and fortifying investments, according to Stapleton.

Accompanying Hugh Wood International are reputable grading companies like Legacy Grading, Paper Money Guaranty (PMG), and the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC). Authors Raymond and Carol Gregory, creators of the Numismatic History of Canada and the United States, will also grace the event. Many of the medals featured in their two-volume book will be part of the Geoffrey Bell Auctions sale, held in conjunction with the coin show. Stapleton emphasizes the unique opportunity to acquire historical pieces and obtain signed copies of the book while meeting the authors.

Additionally, the Expo features Saturday workshops, including:

  • 10:30 a.m.: Kids Coin Workshop and Auction, catering to budding collectors interested in beginner-friendly collectibles. An engaging auction using school play money to purchase real items adds excitement to the event.
  • 1 p.m.: Insuring your collection with Hugh Wood International.

Although Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) youth coordinator Cassidy Stroud is unable to attend the spring show, Sarah Sawicki, the Ontario Numismatic Association’s youth ambassador, will step in. Sawicki, a fixture at the RCNA’s youth table for several years, also contributes a column to the Ontario Numismatist. Stapleton expresses excitement about the intergenerational support, noting that several youth have already pre-registered for the workshop and auction.

With 37 dealers in attendance, the expo promises a diverse array of coins, banknotes, medals, tokens, and more from across Canada. Stapleton invites all enthusiasts to the Toronto Coin Expo, anticipating yet another vibrant and bustling show.
