The Week in Shows (Oct. 30-Nov. 5)

It’s show season!

Today, the Stratford Coin Club will be hosting the Stratford Coin Show at the Festival Inn on 1144 Ontario St., in Stratford, Ont. The show is slated to run from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and admission is $2 (although children under 16 years old are free).

ILLINOIS

The Elgin Coin Club will also host its Annual Coin Show today at VFW Hall Post 1307 in Elgin, Ill., which is about six hours west of the border at Windsor, Ont., and Detroit, Mich. Attendees are invited to buy, sell and trade U.S. and foreign currency and coins from more than 25 dealers. Free appraisals are also available.

At 1 p.m., there will also be a youth auction for all children under 16 years of age. Prizes will be given to all children who attend the auction.

What’s more, door prizes will be given every hour. Parking and admission are free.

NUPHILEX

Later this week, from Nov. 4-6, the largest combined coin and stamp show in Canada – Nuphilex – will be hosted at Complex EVO on 420 Sherbooke St. W., in Montreal, Que. The show will run from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, when admission is $3, and until 4 p.m. on Sunday, when admission is free. There will also be a sale conducted by Lower Canada Auction.

SCARBOROUGH

On Nov. 5, the Scarborough Coin Club will host its 20th Annual Coin Show at Cedarbrook Community Centre on 91 Eastpark Blvd., in Scarborough, Ont. The show will run from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and includes free admission and door prizes.

EDMONTON

On Nov. 5-6, Canada’s largest fall and winter numismatic event – the Edmonton Coin Show and Sale – will be hosted by the Edmonton Numismatic Society. The show will be held at the Howard Johnson Hotel on 15540 Stony Plain Rd., in Edmonton, Alta., from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5 (although children under 16 years old are free).

In addition to free appraisals of coins, tokens, medals, paper money, watches and other time pieces, the show will include educational displays, door prizes as well as a kids’ treasure hunt, and coin auction. Hosted by Kids-On-Coins, the auction is free to attend. All material, including a catalogue and play money for bidding, will be provided.
