The Week in Shows (Nov. 20-26)

Today is the final day of the Autumn 2016 Torex Coin Show, which is held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Toronto’s vibrant entertainment district. More than 40 dealers and hundreds of attendees have gathered this weekend for the two-day show and sale. Admission is $7 (although children 16-and-under are free). The show is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. today.

Attendees are also invited to participate in a raffle for a Royal Canadian Mint 2016 specimen set worth nearly $50. The draw will take place today at 2 p.m.

MICHIGAN STATE

On Nov. 25-27, the Michigan State Numismatic Society is hosting its 61st Annual Fall Convention and Show at Macomb Community College, 14500 E. 12 Mile Rd, Warren, Mich. The show will open each day at 10 a.m., and run until 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Also on Saturday at 1 p.m., noted numismatist Brett Irick, who’s one of three Royal Canadian Numismatic Association directors for Ontario South-Central, is slated to lead a presentation on Japanese Invasion Money, which was a series of paper money used in several countries occupied by Japan during the Second World War. This series includes hundreds of different issues, nearly all of which can be purchased for a few dollars or less. A PowerPoint presentation will be shown by Irick, who will also display examples for review.

The Michigan State Numismatic Society will also host a Coin and Jewelry Convention in conjunction with its Annual Fall Convention on Nov. 25-28. About 250 dealer tables—many with coins and currency—will be joined by a new group of jewelry merchants.
