Vancouver Mint store to close before Christmas

The Royal Canadian Mint boutique located at 752 Granville St. in Vancouver, B.C. is slated to close its doors permanently as of Dec. 2.

Located in the heart of Vancouver’s famous shopping district between Georgia Street and Robson Street, the retail store was launched in 2010. In appreciation of the past seven years, the Mint is hosting its final coin exchange at the Vancouver boutique on Oct. 14, when attendees can trade their change for the new $2 “Dance of the Spirits” glow-in-the-dark coloured circulation coin. The exchange will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and there’s a limit of two coins a guest while supplies last.

Collectors are still able to purchase coins at any of the Mint’s authorized Vancouver-area dealers and distributors or online at mint.ca.

‘DANCE OF THE SPIRITS’

Designed by Timothy Hsia, the “Dance of the Spirits” coin is part of the five-coin “My Canada, My Inspiration” set, the designs for which were submitted by Canadians and chosen via public vote. The $2 “Dance of the Spirits” coin celebrates the wonders of Canada with an evocative design featuring the Northern Lights.
