Switzerland took home its second consecutive Bank Note of the Year Award for its 2017 polymer 10-franc note highlighting Switzerland’s organizational talents with a key motif focusing on time.
On the face, a conductor’s hand holds a baton and sets the tempo above a globe divided into time zones. Clock faces form the background while the Swiss rail network and its longest tunnels are depicted on the security strip. On the back, tunnels from Switzerland’s complex rail network are shown beneath the inner workings of a watch. Held by the International Bank Note Society (IBNS), the vote was open to all IBNS members.
Other finalists included the Bank of Canada’s $10 sesquicentennial note depicting John A. Macdonald; George-Étienne Cartier; Agnes Campbell Macphail; and James Gladstone (also known as Akay-na-muka) alongside national landmarks and artifacts from four regions in the country.
