Show, banquet hightlight today’s convention

The Royal Canadian Numismatic Association’s Awards Presentation and Banquet and the popular coin show are amongst the numerous events scheduled for the second last day of this year’s annual convention.

The popular Bourse and Show, presented this year by Canadian Coin News, is under way in the main ball room at the Delta Meadowvale Hotel in Mississauga, featuring more than 50 dealers of decimals, tokens, medals and banknotes from across Canada and the United States. The show closes at  5:30 p.m. today.

Several clubs and associations are also holding meetings throughout the day, including: Canadian Association of Wooden Money Collectors; Canadian Numismatic Research Society; Canadian Association of Token Collectors; Medallic Art Society of Canada meeting; Canadian Tire Coupon Collectors Club; and, today also represents the inaugural meeting of the 1967 Centennial Collectors Club.

The RCNA’s annual banquet this evening will cap the day’s events, with several  prestigious awards being presented, including: the J. Douglas Ferguson Award; the Paul Fiocca Award; Fellow of the RCNA; and, Best of Show Award.

The guest speaker at tonight’s banquet is Paul Denis, assistant curator of Greek, Etruscan, Roman & Byzantine Collections, at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM).

The convention wraps up tomorrow morning with the Canadian Association for Numismatic Education board meeting and the Ontario Numismatic Association executive meeting.
