Register now for ‘perfect week of numismatic immersion’ at 2016 Summer Seminar

The American Numismatic Association (ANA) Summer Seminar is a once-a-year opportunity for numismatic learning and camaraderie, and online registration is open until June 1.

Held at Colorado College, nearly 1,500 kilometres south of Regina, Sask., the annual Summer Seminar offers students a range of weeklong numismatic courses designed for “discovery or continued study,” said organizers, who added “for many students, it’s a life-changing event.” This year, the gathering runs from June 18-30.

For the past 40 years, it has offered classes to meet the needs of virtually any numismatist. Some of the typical themes covered in each year’s classes include: Grading United States Coins; Detecting Counterfeit and Altered Coins; Coin Photography; Ancient Greek and Roman Coinage; Early American Copper Coinage; Colonial Americana; Morgan Dollars; and Indian Head Cents, among others.

Organizers describe the classes as “true seminars,” in which students gather in “small groups with everyone an active participant.” What’s more, instructors are recognized leaders in their respective specialties. There are also optional tours, seminars and lectures; special events; food and drink; receptions and banquets; and daily opportunities to visit the ANA’s Edward C. Rochette Money Museum and Dwight N. Manley Numismatic Library.

It’s a “perfect week of numismatic immersion,” organizers added.
