The Royal Canadian Mint has been ranked sixth among Corporate Knights’ Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada.
Corporate Knights is a Toronto-based media and research company that produces rankings and financial product ratings based on corporate sustainability performance. Its annual corporate citizenship recognition program is a respected benchmark for corporate sustainability leadership in Canada.
“After years of hard work it is very rewarding to be recognized by Corporate Knights for our environmental leadership, innovation and diversity,” said outgoing Mint president and CEO Sandra Hanington, who announced her sudden resignation earlier this year.
“We take great pride in being an organization that balances a public mandate with commercial objectives; delivering excellence to customers while taking great care in managing the environmental and social impacts of running a successful business.”
Highlights of the Mint’s performance include reducing water use and carbon dioxide emissions as a result of focused efforts, process improvements and investing in innovation. The Mint is also recognized for its diversity—specifically the number of women serving on the board of directors and in senior leadership roles.
The Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada ranking is based on 17 indicators that cover aspects including environmental performance, innovation capacity, compensation and benefits, and safety performance. The Mint was evaluated against other Canadian corporations. In all, 232 companies were included in the study.
